I think that people and institutions are dishonest when they talk about a cure for “lifestyle” diseases. Will there ever be a “cure” for cancer? One has been just around the corner for thirty years now, and while treatment has definitely improved, how do you cure a disease where the body simply loses the ability to support healthy tissue? You really can only support a healthy body. Cancer is much more about environmental hazards and lifestyle choices then it is something that simply happens because of genetics etc—it is a modern scourge for our strange and unhealthy modern condition. A cure would simply be like washing a pig and sticking it back in the muddy pig-pen. Our situation, diet, environment etc just doesn’t support health.
So the cure is simply to support health—to put the body in conditions that it will function properly. If that was our focus, other than spending zillions on a “cure”, then we would have, not a cure, but a solution, and cancer would be much more rare. Alas, we are too much in love with the idea of the “cure”, to our great detriment.
